Volkswagen’s made in India, for India SUV, the Taigun, aces the Global N-CAP tests with five stars!
It’s a year now since Volkswagen launched the Taigun in India and what better way to celebrate the made in India, for India SUV’s first anniversary than reaffirm its commitment to safety? The Tiguan has scored five stars in both adult and child occupant safety tests under the new and more stringent Global NCAP safety tests! The Volkswagen Taigun scored 29.64 points out of 34 for adult occupant protection and 42 out of 49 for child occupant protection, making it the first car to ace the updated G-NCAP tests. The feat effectively also puts the Volkswagen Taigun right on top of the list of the safest cars in India! Of course, that’s also because safety has been at the very core for Volkswagen as a car maker and needless to mention, the same ethos has been carried over to the Taigun, the first product to be launched under its ambitious India 2.0 strategy. The Indiaspecific, MQB-A0 IN platform that the Taigun sits on has been developed for our country specifically, while also ensuring it meets Volkswagen’s global engineering standards in terms of structural rigidity. The frame uses strong galvanised steel for optimum rigidity and comes with an unmatched, six-year antiperforation warranty! Laser-welding with the use of robots takes care of joining the panels for seamless and accurate welds and even the unique, 11-stage paint process helps in making the car stronger. And all this is beside the fact that one model of every Volkswagen car sold in India undergoes destructive testing every month to ensure that the strictest safety standards are adhered to. And this is just the bodywork. The Taigun is equipped with a host of active and passive safety features that ensure it is the safest SUV in the country.
The list of safety features in the SUV is in fact quite exhaustive and includes three-point seatbelts and adjustable headrests for all passengers, front seatbelt reminders, up to six airbags, roll-over protection, ISOFIX for child protection, Hill Hold Control, Electronic Stability Control, ABS with EBD and Brake Assist, tyre pressure monitoring, electronic differential locking system, multi-collision braking, brake disc wiping, rear parking camera and sensors, and not to forget, impact absorbing body components and side impact protection beams in the doors. Volkswagen has also ensured the Taigun is equipped with the right set of features like the premium, dual-tone interiors, 10-inch infotainment screen, Virtual Cockpit, keyless entry, wireless charging, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity and its own dedicated app store, besides an electric sunroof. A distinct highlight though is the inclusion of ventilated seats! The Taigun is offered with a choice of two-world class engines, both of which are renowned for their refinement, performance and efficiency and add to the Taigun’s charm as a German SUV engineered for India. The 1.0 TSI is small on displacement and big on performance, delivering 115PS and 178Nm and can be mated to either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. On the other hand, the 1.5 TSI offers 150PS and 250Nm and can be mated to either a six-speed manual transmission or seven-speed DSG. In short, the Taigun is a perfect example of Volkswagen offering its globally renowned engineering in an SUV that’s made in India, for India!
